Wiping VS. Bidet

Bidet without Paper

Wiping with toilet paper isn't as sanitary as you may think. Not to mention, when you wipe in the wrong direction, it can spread fecal bacteria to intimate areas that aren't supposed to have it.

This can result in any number of health problems, such as urinary tract infections , yeast infections, and bacterial vaginosis.

However, there is a healthy and sanitary way to clean after going to the bathroom to eliminate these risks. What could this be, you may ask?

The answer is simple: using a portable bidet or installing a bidet toilet seat. This article will discuss bidets and the benefits of using them.

Wiping vs. Bidet

When you flush the toilet, water goes up, down and around the bowl, so you must wipe between each flush. Bidet toilets are sanitary because they require you to use water to clean your genitals and rectum. Also, because of the way a bidet toilet flushes, you won't have to wait for the water to run out. Many bidets also have a spray valve for added convenience.

So, why do we recommend using a bidet versus dry wiping with toilet paper?

Dry wiping doesn’t necessarily clean all the leftover fecal residue, which puts you at risk for irritation, discomfort and contamination with harmful bacteria such as E. Coli. By using water, you can flush away leftover residue and protect yourself from infections such as UTI’s and other gastrointestinal diseases.

Let’s look further into the reasons bidets are better for your hygienic needs:

What Are Bidets?

Bidets are commonly used in European bathrooms. Traditional bidets in European bathrooms look like a separate toilet bowl, next to the toilet for people to wash their intimate areas. It almost looks like a mini bath for your buttocks. Modern bidets are installed to the toilet seat, which eliminates the need for the separate toilet bowl and frees up space in tiny European bathrooms.

Modern bidets come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. There are even hanging attachments available, which are just like bidet seats on the wall. You can find these out in the aisle of your local store. In basic form, it means your toilet has water spraying capability, to help wash off residue after using the bathroom. Electric bidets are installed to the toilet. It has two different chambers that allow water to spray from it. Electric bidets also allow you to choose the water pressure, based on the user’s preference.

Why Should I install a Bidet to my Toilet Seat?

Installing a bidet to your toilet seat is very beneficial. It allows you to wash away leftover residue with water immediately after you’ve used the bathroom. The bidet allows water to spray your intimate areas and washes away fecal residue, leaving you feeling cleaner without the need to excessively use toilet paper. The water temperature and water pressure can be changed based on your preference. Bidets are considered highly hygienic, as it prevents additional health issues such as UTIs, bacterial growth and contamination.

The concept behind a bidet sprayer isn't new at all. Bidets have been used for hundreds of years. So why are bidets a big deal now? Well, there are more than a few prevalent reasons:

  1. Prevents Infections and other gastrointestinal diseases

The rising awareness of the pervasiveness of bacteria and pathogens in our environment is the main reason. More than half of our household microbes are introduced to us through feces. And those pathogens are known to cause diarrhea, food poisoning, and other stomach-related conditions. So, it's important to keep them at bay.

  1. Better Overall Hygiene

Bidets are better for your overall health. They’re more hygienic than dry wiping with just toilet paper. Bidets limit the spread of germs, as it washes away germs instead of letting it come in close contact with other areas and contaminate. Bidets also reduce the risk of hemorrhoids, as it relieves the extra the pressure on your anus.

  1. Better for the Environment

Bidets are better for the environment, as less toilet paper and wet wipes are used when you cleanse with a bidet first. This eco-friendly method helps you reduce your toilet paper and wet wipe consumption, save money and is better for the environment.

Are There Any Portable Bidets to Keep Clean on the go?

Installing a bidet to your toilet is great, but what about when you’re using public bathrooms? When using public bathrooms, people often worry because it means they’re leaving their fate in the hands of the bathroom facility. This can be tricky, as most people would agree that public bathrooms are filthy 90% of the time.

For this reason, a portable bidet is necessary when you’re mainly on the go and less likely to always find an installed bidet on the toilet.

You should ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Are you mainly at home?
  2. Are you always on the go?
  3. Do you travel a lot?
  4. Do you want to always have control over your hygiene?

If you’re an active person, who likes to go out a lot and travels often, you should probably consider investing in a travel bidet. Unlike the toilet bidet market, the portable bidet market lacks as many options. We were unable to find a sufficient portable bidet, which is why we took matters into our own hands and created The Pocket Bidet®.
